Hope Dining Room volunteers needed Monday, June 17, 2024

posted in: Outreach, Service | 0

Dear Families of St. Thomas’s and St. Nicholas,

Next Monday, June 17, 2024, is our opportunity to serve at Hope Dining Room. Hope Dining Room where we serve “a midday hot meal with dignity, to those in need in the Greater Newark Delaware area.”

Guests at Hope are “dining in”, so we have 2 different short shifts for which you can volunteer. The setup and cooking shift goes from 10 – 11:45 a.m. The serving and cleanup shift goes from 11:45 – 1:30 p.m.

If you’d like to help, please bring a ball cap and an apron. We would LOVE to see you! All of this takes place at Kingswood Methodist Church kitchen on Marrows Road in Brookside Park. It is a team effort, lots of fun and it makes you feel so good to feed people who really appreciate it.

Please volunteer for the things we need for the meal and to volunteer. If you are donating one of those items, THANK YOU! You can bring it to St. Thomas’s, Monday – Thursday from 9 – noon, OR when you come to church on Sunday! Please put it in the kitchen and mark it for “HOPE DINING ROOM”.  If that doesn’t fit into your schedule, give me a call, text or email and I will pick it up at your house.

MANY Blessings to you ALL,
Madeline Johnson

Worship and weekly news for May 26, 2024

Hello faith family! This Sunday is Trinity Sunday – May 26, 2024, Year B. Trinity Sunday in the Anglican tradition is a feast that celebrates “the one and equal glory” of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, emphasizing their unity within the Trinity of Persons and their shared divine essence. This special day is observed on the first Sunday after Pentecost. During Trinity Sunday services, Anglicans reflect on the profound mystery of God’s triune nature and offer worship to the threefold Godhead. The liturgical readings often include passages from the Book of Revelation, where John describes a vision of heavenly worship, including the throne of God, angelic beings, and the eternal praise of the Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty. It is a time for believers to contemplate the depth of God’s love and the interconnectedness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in the life of faith.

Hello faith family! This is the Sunday in Whitsunday, The Day of Pentecost – May 19, 2024, Year B. Pentecost, also known as Whitsunday, is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter. The term “Pentecost” comes from the Greek word “Pentēkostē,” meaning “the fiftieth day,” and is associated with the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and followers of Jesus. The name “Whitsunday” reflects the baptismal celebrations and the custom of donning white robes during this liturgical season. This Sunday is a time when the church emphasizes its mission in the world, empowered by the Holy Spirit to spread the teachings of Christ to all nations.

Weekly News

See our Carpenter’s Helper Weekly Newsletter. This Sunday, May 19, 2024 is Pentecost and we will have an outdoor worship and picnic. 8 a.m. worship will be indoors indoors, as usual. 10:30 a.m. will consist of indoor/outdoor worship and our Pentecost picnic immediately following the worship service. Inspired by Flat Stanley: The Flat Saint Thomas Summer Program draws its inspiration from the beloved children’s book character, Flat Stanley. Created by author Jeff Brown in 1964, Flat Stanley sparked the imagination of children worldwide with his unique ability to travel by mail due to his two-dimensional form. This idea blossomed into the Flat Stanley Project, encouraging children to create their own paper cutouts and send them on adventures, fostering literacy and community.

In the same spirit, our Flat Saint Thomas will journey far and wide, connecting our faith family through shared stories and pictures. It’s a wonderful way to keep the sense of community alive, even when we’re apart, and to remind us that our faith and fellowship can travel any distance.
