Hope Dining Room volunteers for September 20, 2021

posted in: Outreach | 0

Dear Families of St. Thomas’s and St. Nicholas,

Monday, September 20, 2021 is our opportunity to serve lunch at Hope Dining Room. We begin cooking at 10 a.m. at Kingswood Methodist Church on Marrows Road in the Brookside Park community. We are usually finished cleaning up by noon.

It is a lot of fun and very heart-warming to help feed people in our community, who REALLY appreciate it. At this time, it is a “grab and go” lunch, because of COVID. All of our kitchen helpers are masked and our guests who are also masked come through the dining room stay 6 feet apart, grab their styrofoam clamshell lunch, and go out another door.

Here is a Sign Up Genius for the cookies, fruit cups and kitchen helpers:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4DACA72AAAFF2-hope13

You may drop off your donations of cookies and fruit cups at St. Thomas’s, on Monday through Thursday, between 9 a.m. and noon, or Sunday morning when you come to church.    If those times don’t work for you, give me a call and I will pick it up at your house.

MANY Blessings,
Madeline Johnson mad1240@comcast.net

Annual Bazaar planning is in progress

posted in: Outreach | 0

We will be holding our Annual Bazaar in 2 short months. Soon you will be seeing sign-up sheets to provide baked goods, your wonderful craft items and most importantly your TIME.

There will be sign-up sheets at the Time and Talent Day at our table on September 26, 2021. The sign-up sheets will also be posted on the bulletin board near the Choir Room. Please stop by our display and see some of the items that will be offered at the Annual Bazaar on November 12 and 13, 2021. Also, you will have an opportunity to vote to decide the Saint Tile hot plates that will be produced for sale this year at the Annual Bazaar.

In the meantime, if you have any clear wine bottles (we can take off paper labels), we need about 3 dozen of them. Considering the response in the past for wine corks, I don’t think this will be a problem for our congregation!

Also, any ideas that you have for items to sell at the Annual Bazaar are appreciated.

For questions or ideas, please contact Barb Graham at 44graham@comcast.net.

Children’s and Youth Ministry Fall Start-up

posted in: Children's Ministries | 0

THANK YOU to everyone who has been so generous in fulfilling our wish lists! The children’s ministry leadership team has been hard at work planning a safe, fun and meaningful program for the children this year. We will be including our youth in our planning for their activities.

Please consider joining our team as a children’s worship lead teacher or assistant or supporter or a youth group leader/guide. Let me know if you want to share a specific activity or ministry with our young parishioners.

And, please encourage your children and youth to join our advertised activities this fall. Lastly, if you would like to be a part of the activities but still cannot due to COVID safety concerns, let me know so I can try to include your child/family in an alternate way. See our COVID policy.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Blessings, Belinda Young-Payne

Children’s Worship begins Fall 2021 program

posted in: Children's Ministries | 0

Hello Friends,

I am excited to announce that Children’s Worship / Sunday School at St. Thomas’s will start next Sunday, September 12, 2021, as a “tent gathering” in the courtyard, under red tents. We are predicting that at the beginning of our return to “in-person” programming, we will have enough children and teachers for one multi-age class. (Think:  1 room school house).  Everyone will be asked to follow COVID safety guidelines while we are together.

In order for everyone to be safe, we need to have 2 adults in every class:  a lead teacher and an assistant.  We have a few lead teachers, but would LOVE to have some of you as an assistant.  We PROMISE we won’t ask you to prepare or lead a lesson – ONLY assist – pour juice/ serve crackers, clean up glue, etc.

We will be outside in the Grove as long as weather permits.  Next Sunday’s forecast is 81 degrees and sunny. You can sign up for a one-time trial, and this is NOT a lifetime assignment. We DO have the sweetest kids around.

If you would like to help as an assistant or have questions about our plan, please come talk to me at St. Thomas’s after either service tomorrow or contact me or Madeline Johnson. We would LOVE to hear from you.

Blessings, Belinda Young-Payne

Celebration of Time and Talent

posted in: Events | 0

St. Thomas’s worship and ministry are possible only with the generous gifts of time and talent offered by its members. Some of this service is public and visible, while much of it is done quietly and unobtrusively, especially in these pandemic times. All of it makes St. Thomas’s a vital, safe place where God’s people are cared for in many ways. Our offerings of time and talent are part of our stewardship of the resources that God has so generously given us.

This year, the event that was formerly Rally Sunday is going to be a celebration of the time and talent that go into making St. Thomas’s the wonderful place that it is. We are planning to celebrate all our wonderful volunteers (as well as recruit some new ones) between the services on Sunday, September 26, 2021. We are planning on making the event fun with door prizes and refreshments.

Come to St. Thomas’s on Sunday, September 26, 2021 to celebrate and give thanks for the gifts of time and talent that make St. Thomas’s possible! There will be opportunities for you to offer your own gifts. We will make tasks as doable as possible—no one will be asked to make a long-term commitment on the spot— and there will be opportunities for all ages and abilities.

We have been brainstorming tips to encourage people to become involved and would like your group to consider some of them.

  • Break tasks down into small, doable tasks, so that people do not become overwhelmed.
  • Give people a “free trial” of your activities.  Assure them that they can come once and are not making a lifelong commitment.
  • Assure people they can commit to as little or as much as they feel able.
  • Encourage youth to sign up, but do not have a Junior version of your group. If our youth sign up they are doing so as full members.
  • Think outside the box for times that new people can volunteer for your group, to encourage people with different schedules to sign up.

We are God’s hands and feet and voice. Everyone can be a part of the worship and ministry of St. Thomas’s. Everything that we do helps to create the kingdom of God here and now.

God’s gifts of grace come in many forms. Each of you has received a gift in order to serve others. You should use it faithfully. 1 Peter 4:10
