Worship and weekly news – March 6, 2022

posted in: News, Worship | 0

Hello faith family! Sunday is the First Sunday in Lent – March 6, 2022, Year A. Services are held in-person with precautions and online via our YouTube channel. See the Worship Schedule below. This is the first week of the additional 5 p.m. Sunday service, which this week will be a service of penance and reconciliation. This service is in-person only. Please do not hesitate to contact the office or Fr. Howie with any questions or concerns about these options. We are listening to the experts and considering how to best keep our faith family safe during this pandemic.

See the St. Thomas’s Carpenter’s Helper newsletter for news and events information for this week. You will find a prayer for peace, an invitation to a new ministry, and some thought-provoking poetry musings from our sexon, Kenneth. Kenneth’s choice of poem for the Helper is so appropriate for this week, as we will be enjoying the Gospel reading in both Spanish and English, and this poet is published in both languages.  He also grabbed a book of post-Soviet Ukrainian poetry from the library, “From Three Worlds: New Writing from Ukraine“.  It is not only a collection of some of Ukraine’s most talented writers, but is also a medium for Ukrainian literature to rewrite the Soviet palimpsest that has systematically repressed and excluded Ukrainian voices.

Worship this Week:

Sunday Schedule:

Other Parish Events:

  • Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. – 2 Saints Readers March 2022 series on “Soul Stages” by Christopher Moore.

  • Sunday, March 27, 2022 – Annual Parish Meeting in the Great Hall following the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

In this strange pandemic time, the church is aware that some of its members are struggling to make ends meet. If you are in this situation, please let the clergy know of your needs, pray for the church, and feel no guilt about your giving. But if you are able to give, options for giving include mailing a check to your church or online giving.

If you have anything to add to the Parish calendar or the Carpenter’s Helper newsletter, please email the office at StThomassOffice@googlegroups.com.

To see all events or news, visit our website, check FaceBook, or check out the posted events on the board next to the name tag station. Recent Newsletters, Sermons, or Announcements are also available.

Regardless of whether we are together in-person or virtually, we are connected by the Holy Spirit:  Always together; never apart…maybe in distance, but never in heart.

Shrove Tuesday dessert party on March 1, 2022

posted in: Lent | 0

Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday is right around the corner!  While we cannot get together for our traditional pancake dinner and games, we cannot let this celebration pass by without some fellowship.  So, this year, we will be gathering via Zoom for a DESSERT PARTY on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 7 p.m. Mark your calendar!

Part of the fun of this celebration is the preparation; let’s get excited!!! Here is a link to its Facebook event.  Please let us know you will be joining in the fun, and feel free to share this invitation with anyone who could use some community.

I found a copy of “The Feast is Ready”, the 5th edition of the St. Thomas’s Parish recipe book and it includes recipes from our congregation dating back to the 1920s.  I’ll be listing some of these recipes on the Facebook event page.  Please share some of your own!  What will you be preparing for our gathering?  Let me know if you are interested in providing a video tutorial of your recipe: do we have any Jeff Smiths or Gina Neelys out there?

And, finally, if you are just not into making a dessert – WE STILL WANT TO SEE YOU!!  Join us with a glass of water, and we will be glad to see your smiling face.  And, if you really enjoy preparing sweets and would like to share, post it in the Facebook event, and I’ll bet that someone out there would be ecstatic to receive your gift.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this FUN event.  I will be emailing out the Zoom link on the day of the party.  Friends are WELCOME: please let me know if there are additional email addresses to add to the invitation, or you are free to forward the link to your contacts.  HOORAY FOR FELLOWSHIP!

2 Saints Readers upcoming March 2022 series

posted in: News | 0

2 Saints Readers, our St. Nicholas and St. Thomas’s joint reading group, invite you to join in the discussion.

What would it be like to live the second half of your life with real enthusiasm?

Soul Stages is written for people who want affirmation that the second half of life presents different challenges and opportunities than the first but is no less fulfilling. Readers will be able to see transitions as opportunities for spiritual and emotional growth, rather than as problems to be solved.

CHRISTOPHER CHAMBERLIN MOORE has more than forty years’ experience ministering in The Episcopal Church. A nationally recognized conference leader, he is the author of What I REALLY Want to Do, Opening the Clergy Parachute, and Solitude: A Neglected Path to God. He has written for many denominational, Christian, and secular publications, and won an Emmy Award for Excellence in Religious Broadcasting.

Chris is fascinated by what makes us who we are. Why are we drawn to certain paths and not others? What
makes us choose the work we do? Why are certain experiences life-giving for us? Where do we find our
“bliss”? How can we find joy, purpose and passion in the second half of life? These questions guide his life
and his writing.

Chris and his wife live near Philadelphia.

Tuesdays at 10 a.m. March 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2022 via Zoom. Contact the office for your invitation.
