A light lunch will be provided in the Overflowing Cup Cafe in the Great Hall at St. Thomas’s Parish, 276 S. College Ave., Newark Delaware 19711. The events committee would appreciate your help in this endeavor. If you are able, please sign up to donate to the lunch.

The Saint John’s Bible, an amazing work of art, is coming to St. Thomas’s for the 2023 holiday season. It will arrive on December 13, 2023 and remain for the Christmas 2023 season though January 2024.

The St. John’s Bible is a major artistic project – a hand-written and illuminated book – produced over many years. The book is quite large – two feet tall and three feet wide! The production of the book required the renewing of many historic artistic and calligraphic techniques. The artwork is especially interesting in the ways it combines many artistic styles and techniques. Full-page illuminations are engaging ways to talk about how we see the world and where imagination can take us.
The Executive Director of the St. John’s Bible project, Brad Neary, will be at St. Thomas’s on December 13, 2023. On that day, we will welcome school and other groups for 30-45 minute “tours” with Mr Neary in the morning (9-11:30). Do you have a group who would like to schedule a presentation or do you know someone who might?
We are also looking for St. Thomas’s docents. A group of individuals will receive training from Mr Neary following the noon service on the 13th. Light lunch will be provided. Are you interested in being trained to be a tour guide?

This week, we will celebrate All Saints’ Day, on November 1, 2023. All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day, the Feast of All Saints, the Feast of All Hallows, the Solemnity of All Saints, and Hallowmas, is a Christian solemnity celebrated in honor of all the saints of the Church, whether they are known or unknown. This is not to be confused with All Souls’ Day, a day of prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed, which is on November 2, 2023 and which we will mark on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the St. Thomas’s Cemetery. ALL are Welcome!

As Americans, we take pride in the fact that in our religious faith we are free to believe anything or nothing. This has led to a multiplying of denominations in Christianity and other faiths, but also to new kinds of religious expression. And even when these have been born in or borrowed from the past, they say important things about what is means to see the world and God through American eyes.
The Christian life is an adventure. As we go through our lives, there is always something new to learn, something new to discover. This year we will continue to explore our roots, who we are now, and the places where our faith and the world intersect.
Whenever possible, we will offer all our programs in person and virtually. Please make plans to attend in whatever format best fits your circumstances.
