VESTRY & MINISTRIES

Vestry

An Episcopal vestry is the legal representative body of a parish, responsible for managing its corporate property and supporting the church’s mission. At St Thomas’s, our vestry is a cohesive group of nine members who meet monthly, with a rotation system where three new members are elected at the annual meeting each Spring, and three members graduate off the vestry. This ensures a continuous cycle of fresh perspectives and experienced guidance.

The annual meeting is a key event where the entire congregation comes together. Important decisions are made, and future plans are discussed, with preparatory sessions between services leading up to the meeting, demonstrating our commitment to thoughtful planning. This is also a joyful time of fellowship when we hear reports from our various ministries, recounting the year’s successes and getting excited about what is in store next.

All vestry meetings are open to the congregation, without a voting voice. Additionally, any parish member in good standing may run for vestry at the annual meeting. We also invite a confirmed teen to serve as a youth representative, ensuring that the voices of our younger members are heard and included in our decision-making process.
