Holy Eucharist, Rite I spoken

Join us LIVE on YouTube:www.youtube.com/channe.....smiNg

During the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Thomas’s is alive and well. We are worshiping via live streaming on YouTube (See our YouTube Channel and hit Subscribe!), and in person with precautions. The full-text bulletins for our services can be found on our website, and by email request.

We also continue to respond to the needs of the Newark community through our collaboration with the Newark Empowerment Center and others. Those who would like to support our work may do so by going to our “Giving to St Thomas’s” page. Our prayers are with all those who are ill, all who are caring for them, and all who are striving to hear the voice of God in these challenging times. May God bless you and keep you, now and always.

Sunday School

Regular Weekly Children’s Worship:   Sunday School will meet in-person at St. Thomas’s three or four Sundays a month, gathering at 10:15 a.m. for an opening activity and beginning the lesson/worship as the 10:30 a.m. worship service begins in the sanctuary.  Children aged 4 to grade 6 are invited to participate. Seventh graders are currently invited to participate as junior leaders but if our number of 7th graders exceeds 3, a separate plan will be implemented for them. If community health changes make it necessary, our program will be held virtually on Zoom and families will be notified of the change.  Our main framework will be a worship schedule that mimics the liturgy of the Episcopal Church: greeting and opening prayer, liturgy of the word, response in the form of art and prayer, and feast and fellowship.  This schedule may differ by age group or week depending on topics and activities.

For more info, visit Children's Ministry at our website: Children’s Ministries – St. Thomas's Episcopal Parish (stthomasnewarkde.church) or contact Belinda Young-Payne at St. Thomas’s by phone at (302) 388-4017. or via email at belmar43@aol.com.

Advent Evening Prayers- Amahl & The Night Visitors

Marc Cheban will lead us through "Amahl and the Night Visitors": a one act opera. This sounds like a fun and fascinating evening that you won't want to miss out on. It will run about one hour.

Based on Italian folk tales of the Nativity and Epiphany, Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors is a retelling of the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young disabled boy named Amahl, who lives in poverty with his widowed mother near Bethlehem.

He sees a bright star in the sky one night and tells his mother to go look, but she brushes him off, buried in concern over their bleak future and lack of means with which to support themselves. That night, three kings come across their meager hut and seek shelter, for they have traveled long and far following the star of which Amahl had spoken. They bring with them treasure and gifts to give to “the Child” who has just been born and who will reign over all. Blinded by the lure of the gold and what it could do for her family. the Mother attempts to steal just a bit of the treasure, but is caught red-handed. What no one expects is a gift far greater than gold--blessed by the Child, Amahl finds himself suddenly cured of his disability. A vivid and accessible tale originally created for television, Amahl and the Night Visitors is a perfect first opera--or hundredth!  .

UD Ballroom Dancers- public class

Meets in the Great Hall

Classes are $15 for students and $35 for non-students (for the whole four-week session).

What if I have no dance experience?
Don't worry, most people are beginners. We tailor each class to fit the level of the participants.

What do I wear?
Any comfortable clothing will do. We do ask that you wear comfortable shoes that are securely attached to your feet. Anything that has a tendency to slip off is potentially dangerous. For women, heels are alright if you are comfortable in them, but under 3" is preferred. If you don't feel comfortable wearing heels, flats or sneakers are fine.

How do I register for a public class?
Just show up 10 to 15 minutes early for the first class of the session. The beginning of each session can be found on the calendar. We will ask you to submit your payment and fill out a short contact information sheet for our records in case of emergency cancellations.

If I come with a partner will I be dancing with him/her the entire time?
We encourage rotation of partners during class because it helps the learning process; however, it is not required.
Meets in the Great Hall.
