Blue Hen Bounty Pantry needs donations

posted in: ECM | 0

As you can tell from all the foot traffic in Newark the students are back troves!   The good news is we have more students using our food pantry – Blue Hen Bounty.   The bad news is we are OUT OF MOST EVERYTHING!

Next time you go shopping please add a can, box, bottle, packet and/or bar for the students.  Or, just bring in something from your pantry.

ECM students started and continue to run Blue Hen Bounty, a food pantry that provides supplemental nutrition to  University of Delaware students who are food insecure and cannot provide ample nutrition for themselves. Food insecure students are invited to come to ECM’s Blue Hen Bounty food closet by going to the Parish Office at St. Thomas’s Parish, 276 S. College Ave., Newark, Delaware 19711.

Thanks for your generous support.

Twenty-first Sunday after PentecostHello faith family! Sunday, October 17, 2021 is the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost. Services are held in-person with precautions and online via our YouTube channel. Please do not hesitate to contact the office or Fr. Howie with any questions or concerns about these options. We are listening to the experts and considering how to best keep our faith family safe during this pandemic.

You might want to read through The Worship Booklets this week as there are some subtle differences this week that incorporate Adult Education’s recent study of Celtic Spirituality. Happy Fall!! Our Fall clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday November 6, 2021 from 8-12 p.m. Cider donuts will be provided in the morning and pizza at the end.

Please come help prepare our grounds for winter. Leaf raking, bush trimming, stick gathering. If someone wants to work on bench repair we have a couple of benches from the Grove that need the slats replaced.

If anyone is aware of a job that could use some extra hands, let me know.

Please let me know if you can come help out and what type of work you are willing / able to do that I have enough jobs planned and we can chat about tools needed.  Plus, I need a rough headcount for food.

Hope Dining Room volunteers for October 18, 2021

posted in: Outreach | 0

Dear Families of St. Thomas’s and St. Nicholas,

Monday, October 18, 2021, is our opportunity to serve at Hope Dining Room. If you are free between 10 a.m. and noon that day, we would love for you to experience the joy that it gives to be part of a team that makes a simple lunch for people who really appreciate it.

It is a lot of fun and very heart-warming to help feed people in our community, who REALLY appreciate it. At this time, it is a “grab and go” lunch, because of COVID. All of our kitchen helpers are masked and our guests who are also masked come through the dining room stay 6 feet apart, grab their styrofoam clamshell lunch, and go out another door.

We begin cooking at 10 a.m. at Kingswood Methodist Church on Marrows Road in the Brookside Park community. We finish cleanup by noon.

Here is a Sign Up Genius for the cookies, fruit cups and kitchen helpers:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4DACA72AAAFF2-hope14

You may drop off your donations of fruit cups and cookies at St. Thomas’s on Tuesday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and noon or Sunday morning when you come to church. If those times don’t work for you, give me a call or email and I will pick it up at your house.

MANY Blessings,
Madeline Johnson     mad1240@comcast.net
